"Functional Osteopathy is a soft method of treatment that facilitates the body's own healing mechanism from within. Therapeutic change arises from within a patient's own body, not from the practitioner's direct intervention. The essential “function" of the body is to remain dynamic and vital from within, for it is this vitality that support the movement of life. The ultimate "function" of the human being is to be whole and complete, and this includes fostering an inner spiritual presence: it is this presence that animates and sustains the physical form".
Do you recognised any of the following attributes within yourself? If so, then a Functional Method of treatment is likely best for you.
I have a rich and fulfilling inner life.
I have a natural sensitivity and self-awareness.
I have generally responded best to gentle treatment methods.
I value listening for, and co-operating with my body's own inner wisdom.
I prefer treatment that encourages therapeutic change to come from within.
I am often reminded that there is more to life than what immediately meets the eye.
I view my world through the prism of both physical, emotional and spiritual aspects; and acknowledge the inseparable relationship between them.
I greatly value times of stillness.
These are broad generalisations: people may have an affinity for elements in both a structural and functional method of treatment. If this is the case, then it is recommended that you begin with a more functional method. Structural and Functional methods of treatment are best not combined in the same treatment.
